The Gardeners Workshop
Conservation & Restoration
Aberdeenshire

When etch were commissioned to assist in delivery of this project the existing workshop was almost completely concealed by overgrown Ivy and trees. On undertaking initial survey works it was clear that the structure was in a derelict state and little beyond the existing walls could be retained.

The property sits within the confines of a historic walled garden and adjacent to a scheduled monument, bringing additional challenges to the project.

The proposals for the workshop are conservation led, looking to retain legibility of the original building, whilst upgrading it to a workshop fit for the clients’ requirements. Through a very carefully set out specification of works and through effective engagement with the local Planning Authority, Building Standards and Historic Environment Scotland the workshop proposals received approval late 2020, with the works completed in Summer 2022.
